The State of Texas and the World lost a great friend on February 9th, 2006.

Don Myers was a man who never knew a stranger, you were just a friend he had not met yet. Don lived his life to the fullest, all the way up to when God called him up to heaven to teach the saints and the angels how to dance the Fort Worth Shuffle.

Don was a father to six great kids the youngest being Nikki, all of whom he always wanted the best. He was the host of a cable Dance show for many years. He was a dance instructor, videographer, a photographer, DJ, VJ, also co-founder and president of the Westside Shufflers, which is a chapter of the Texas Country and Western Dance Association.

One of the goals Don had was to see that his youngest Daughter Nikki receive the best education available. So her big brother Shawn is setting up an education fund though the U Promise program. For more info on contributing - he can be contacted via e-mail at shawnmyers@yahoo.com or by his cell phone at 248-622-0671. Please, any phone calls should be made no later than 8pm.

We will all miss our Best friend. Don’s body may be finally at rest but his spirit will be with us always.

15I can tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not rise to meet him ahead of those who are in their graves. 16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. 17Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. 18So comfort and encourage each other with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18

Stories

The usual format for Sunday night shuffle lessons was beginners first, intermediate next and a complicated advanced move last. Don's advanced moves could really be complicated and he usually ran out of time before the lesson for the advanced move was done.

This usually left the students wrapped together like a pretzel. To cure the pretzel problem Don would have the man free spin the lady from the pretzel position. The pretzel problem occurred pretty much every week.

Consequently, whenever Don would announce a new advanced move the comment from the spectators was, "we know how this one ends, the man free spins the lady out."
