The Dance Communities Loss
Diet Coke, cigarettes,
start this day, like all the rest,
First thing every morning that I do
is start missing youSome broken hearts never mend,
some memories never end,
Some tears will never dry,
my love for you will never dieTexas shuffle in the night,
my dance partner to hold me tight,
But in the middle of the dance's embrace,I see you're face.

Donald "Don" Nelson Myers
June 1, 1949 -- February 9, 2006
Don Myers a close friend of dancers across the DFW Metroplex died on February 9th, 2006. Ron and I have known Don for around 16 years. We had taught on his T.V. shows and judged his contests and danced exhibitions for him at State Conventions. He will be sorely missed in our dance community. We are praying for his family and his chapter in their hour of need.
Monday February 13, 2006From Lynda Kauffman
I wanted to take a moment and express my thoughts on the Covered Dish Social held at Electric Cowboy last night, in Don Myer's memory.I shouldn't have been surprised at the number of people who came out to honor Don's memory. Don has been in the DFW Country Western scene for many, many years - much longer than I've even known about it. The caring and consideration for Don's family was extremely apparent last night. My guess is that over 200 people showed up to pay their respects to Don and his family. There was enough food to feed an army and people kept wanting to help. It makes me feel very fortunate when I realize the kindness and thoughtfulness that runs through our "extended dance family".
When you get right down to it, it's not "about" the dance. Dance is what brings us together, but our connection as individuals who care for each other is what keeps us going. We have some great folks amongst us and I'm thankful to be part of the dance world.
The Westside Shufflers are going to need a lot of caring and thoughtfulness as they move to close the wide gap that was left in their Chapter from such a great loss. I know that the Executive Board and the other Chapters will rally behind them and help them move forward. Don Myers will never be replaced, but his memory will be honored by continuing his legacy through the Westside Shufflers, the dance lessons, and continuing to motivate people to dance.
