It’s been a heck of a month out here on the trail. Mrs. Trail Boss and I
have gotten real lucky and been invited to some dern good shindigs. We’re
blessed with good friends that think of us when extra tickets to fun events show
up in their hands.

Charlie and Linda Williams invited Cheryl and I and Lynda K.
and John V. to the Golden Gloves and we all had a rockem sockem good time. Lynda
K. got over her adversion to the sight of a little blood and we all enjoyed the
good sportsmanship and the sweet science of amateur boxing. We even got to see a
weebil that wobbled but wouldn’t fall down. Hey, you had to be there.
Cheryl and I were also invited to a Happy Birthday Texas celebration at Billy
Bob’s hosted by Congressman Joe Barton. These tickets were provided by Lynda
Kauffman courtesy of her employer. We enjoyed Riscky’s Barbeque, a few
stirring speeches by politicians and the same band that had played at Horseman
the night before. John and Lynda and Mrs. Trail Boss and I promptly got out on
the dance floor as soon as the band started up. It didn’t take long before the
other dancers were on the sidelines watching us. Congressman Barton complimented
us on our dancing and thanked us for being part of the entertainment. I
graciously thanked him for the compliment but didn’t have the heart to tell
him that we weren’t all that good but we regularly danced with folks that
were. The Fort Worth Chapter in the past has provided dancing entertainment for
the Happy Birthday Texas party that Congressman Barton puts on each year.
The
last dance contest at the Horseman Club (for a while, at least) brought
in some terrific dancers from all over North Texas. We were lucky enough to see
many "Oh wow, I want to learn to do that" swing dancers. As good as
all these dancers were, the First Place couple just happened to have one of our
own TCWDA Ladies as the better half of the partnership. Congratulations go to
Mary Dike for putting on a terrific exhibition of swing style and moves and
showing great restraint when her partner showed total lack of dance floor
etiquette.
Ya’ll don’t forget to head to Longview April 5. All Chapters are invited
whenever we do one of our road trips so don’t be shy. Come on out and join us.
We’ll be staying Saturday night at the Quality Inn Longview. Their phone
number is 903-757-7858. We will be dancing at the Rio Palm Isle Saturday night
and returning to Cowtown sometime Sunday.
The Fort Worth Chapter will be holding an official, honest "we’re
gonna do it right" chapter meeting Saturday, April 12 at the Horseman at 7
PM. We do have some chapter business we must tend to. If you’re planning on
attending, and I hope lots of you are, please get in contact with myself or one
of the chapter officers just in case we have to change the time or place.
I reckon that’s about it for now. So you all can saddle up and get back to
riding your own spreads. See ya’ll down the trail.
John Lester,
Trail Boss
