WHERE TO DANCE in Fort Worth The Horseman Club "Fort Worth's Premier Country Western Night Club"
byJohn Lester, Trail Boss
From the Trail Boss
In all my years of dancing, I have asked many ladies to dance and have heard many replies.
Simple ones, "Yes, I'd love to",
"No thank you, maybe later", " about time you asked", and "Do I have to get a restraining order
on you?". But never before until I
asked Nita Myers have I ever heard "OH S_ _ _ ! John you have the worst timing."
Lynda Kauffman has learned from experience that after dancing with several partners, she had
darn well better go to dinner with
us. One Saturday night, Jim Couchman, Ron Crider, and myself all had the opportunity to waltz
with Lynda. She then chose to
stay at the club (cute guy?) while Ron, Jim and I critiqued her waltz over the evening meal. In all
honesty we did go on and on about
her impressive improvement in the dance with only a few suggestions. Lynda, that will learn ya
not to miss chow time with the group.
A few weekends ago, Cheryl and I decided we needed to go to Lone Star Park and hang out with
some of the Arlington crowd at a
get-together they had there. Despite the fact that it rained and drizzled the whole dern time, we
still had a good time. For most of
the day, the best I could do was bet on a horse that finished third but without his rider. As I was
going to the betting window to
throw away another two bucks, I passed Katy Wall who was making her bet on one of the
machines. Katy made her bet and as the
betting slip came out of the machine, it slipped through her fingers and went under the machine
into the cabinet the machine was
sitting on. Being the gentleman that I am, I offered Katy $2.00 to make the bet again and she
did. She managed to get one of the
security people to open the cabinet and retrieve her first ticket. She then offered to repay my
$2.00 but I chose to accept one of the
tickets instead. Yep, you guessed it. We both won $27.00 each when the horse came in first.
EEEHAAAAA!!
On the weekend following the fourth of July, the Fort Worth Chapter celebrated the passing of
their Trail Boss officially becoming an
old fart. Yep, I finally turned 50! That may not seem like a big deal to some folks, but if you
turned 18 in 1970, or thereabouts,
you all know what the odds are of actually making it. My wife Cheryl went above and beyond
the
call of duty to make sure my
birthday party was one I won't forget. Along with the balloons, party favors, taking pictures of
this gray-haired old coot, she
also baked my favorite cake (from scratch). After dancing with as many ladies as my tired ole
boots could stand, we were off to
dinner. As it was my birthday, I got to choose the restaurant, and everyone got to enjoy dinner
at Hooter's. I don't think I
was the only one who had a good time.
I want to remind everyone of the chapter pool party at Ron and Beki Crider's at 5813 Whitman.
On Saturday August 17th you
HAVE to be there. Be sure to bring a dish that falls into the group that Beki has set up to
corresponds with your last name. Unless
of coarse, you don't want to, hey we ain't real strict.
