A Wedding & Ghosts

Hope everyone is having a great February. The Fort Worth Chapter has really been busy. We had people going to workshops, weddings, ski trips, and other vacations. Speaking of weddings...A group of us went to Nelson Thomas and Elaine Millers wedding on January 26th. They are friends of our chapter and Ron and I taught Nelson several years ago when we taught weekly lessons at the Southwest Recreation Center. Well, as I was saying, the wedding took place in Waxahachie. We had directions and guess who was interpreting them. Yes you got it, me. Well, Donnie & Melinda found us on the side of the road discussing which way to go with a lot of enthusiasm and to make a long story short all four of us finally made it there. (Donnie and Melinda couldn't figure out the directions either so it wasn't all me.) The wedding platform was beautiful and they had made all of the decorations themselves. They had covered arches in flowers, vines and pink and purple twinkling lights and a white picket fence. Elaine used our sons special wedding march which we stole from Chris Hopkins daughters A & M wedding. There was country dancing, a country western female singer that was really good and we even did the chicken dance. We had a great time and decided to end our day at the Haunted Catfish Plantation for dinner. Several of our members had helped with the wedding and John was the best man. They stayed to clean and we went off in search of the haunted restaurant. This is not an easy place to find and it took us about 45 minutes to finally find this place. While waiting for the other members to arrive, Donnie changed out of his dance boots and it happened again, yes, folks, he locked his keys in the car again. With the help of Jerry and Vicki's coat hanger and a limb off of a tree he was finally successful and got into the truck. WAS IT A DONNIE ERROR OR WAS IT ONE OF THE GHOSTS?...

The Catfish Plantation Restaurant is at 814 Water Street in the historic town of Waxahachie. Some of the strange happenings are slamming doors, knocking walls, pianos playing, clocks chiming, blue glowing lights, flying coffee cups, cold spots, levitating baskets out of the deep fryer and even a fresh pot of coffee awaiting the owner when she arrived to open up. (She was the only one with a key). The place is styled very Victorian and the food is excellent. Melinda had read in a book that you need to bring a bottle of wine with you to dinner as the ghosts do not like seeing the wine on a table. This county is dry. The three ghosts are playful like Casper so check this place out and whatever you do, don't change your boots!

Texas Hoe-Down

The Hoe-Down takes place at the Holiday Inn, North, I-35W & 2540 Mecham Blvd. on March 21-22-23-24, 2002. We always have a chapter night at this event. If you want to really experience some superb dancing, go to this event. Our chapter night this year will be on Saturday, March 23rd. Entrance fee is $7.00 after 6:00 P.M. You will see dancers from all over the US and wonderful vendors selling great dance stuff such as clothes, boots, swing shoes, dance hose, Kippie belts, dance tapes and more. Friday is a day of world class instructors on all the different dances and new line dances. You do not necessarily have to have a partner for these classes and most instructors will rotate. We hope to see you there at 7:00 and we will go eat somewhere around there around 10:00. If you want more info on the event or want to see some of the competition (we have several members competing) check out their web address: http://www.dancetexashoedown.com

DANCE BONDING

Anyone who knows the Fort Worth bunch knows we are a bonding bunch. We have gotten very close over the past 12 years and are always happy to welcome in new friends. One of the ways we get so close is not just our dancing but our dinner bonding. This is the time we really get to know each other as well as we know ourselves. I can tell our Donnie stories better than he can because they are stored deep in my heart. We are family and yet better than family. Come join us and give us a chance to get to know you. We sit or stand over by the DJ Booth at The Horseman Club and you can ask any staff and they will tell you who we are. Come see us!

Thought for the Day

There is always a lot to be thankful for. For Example:

I am sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt.

DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY!

Come and enjoy your weekend with us at The Horseman Club. We are over by the DJ booth and would like to meet all our new members. If you are not sure who we are, ask management and they will point you in the right direction. Come and join in the fun of Fort Worth and TCWDA.

Still holding my flag high and waving it proudly!
